Acanthus Leaf Dance
Stained Glass
Created in 2024/25 for the British Society of Master Glass Painters ‘Inspired by Morris’ Exhibition.
One of the highlights for me in 2024 was to spend time thinking about William Morris in order to make a piece for the Glass Painters' Showcase exhibition 'Inspired by Morris' , sponsored by The Bristich Society of Master Glass Painters and Sanderson
In the end I made four panels mainly because I was over-excited and entered three of them (the maximum! ) for the online exhibition to sit alongside an astounding 100+ others by over 80 glass artists....what a treat.
The acanthus leaf is a favourite motif used by Morris and his circle in various designs, adding movement and depth to embroidery as well as textiles and wallpaper. The leaf has been a symbol of enduring life, immortality, and strength since the 5th century and one that I enjoy using alongside other foliate forms in glass to celebrate colour, form, and texture.
