Murano Flowers : Red Seeds
One of a series of one-off pieces inspired by the collection of 19th century millefiori ( a thousand flowers) glass cane samples at the Museo del Vetro on Murano in Venice.
These tiny samples are masterpieces of foliate stylisation in molten glass, hardened and stretched to create the sections destined to be used in paperweights, jewellery and other glass artefacts by the glass blowers of Venice.
I sketched these antique samples at the Museum and created a range of stained glass flowers based on their idiosyncratic forms.
Each is created using handmade etched and painted glass, leaded and ready to hang.
