Being asked to make a piece for a fellow artist is always a treat and I had a lovely time recently developing and making a piece for the talented glass artist Cathryn Shilling. She makes wonderful blown and kiln worked glass pieces which you can see here.
Working to a very open brief of ‘just make me a piece’ is enough to make me cheer inwardly and then develop a nervous twitch! Cathryn originally responded to the painterly qualities in my work and it was these I developed alongside some other themes I’m interested in such as low relief, sculptural carving into the glass and combinations of elemental shapes. The slide show below follows the making of the piece from sketch idea through to finished details.
