‘Cysgod y Coed ‘ (Shelter of the Trees)
Interior screen for the Family Housing Association, Wales
Linda Norris and I were commissioned by The Family Housing Association (Wales) to make a glass screen for the restaurant and lounge at the new ‘Homes for Life’ Bro Preseli development in Crymych, Pembrokeshire.
The inspiration for the work came from a desire to bring the landscape of Pembrokeshire into the building and to include artwork by local people to personalize the space. We decided on a theme based on tree and plant shapes, and designed the piece to change with the light throughout the day and provide interest and stimulation for staff, visitors and residents.
Linda completed workshops with children in the local school and we used elements of their work in the finished piece. You can see more images and information about the workshops, and more of Linda’s work here. We both feel that it is really wonderful to have had the opportunity to make work for this fantastic new facility for elderly and vulnerable adults in our community.
Below are images of the process of creating the screen, from design through sampling to installation. The screen consists of eight double glazed units with both internal faces sandblasted, allowing for the interplay between two layers.
